The weekend has once again arrived, and you’re back at home wondering what to do. 1.The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

This movie tells the tale of an introverted and awkward photo editor who works for the ill-fated LIFE Magazine. Despite the lull of his daily job, his imagination is taken away through the pictures he edits for an acclaimed travel photographer. When his job is threatened, he embarks on the adventure of his dreams. Though I personally find this movie to stray from the original essay, the cinematography and sense of adventure have stayed true to world of Walter Mitty. From the cold landscapes of Iceland to the majestic views into Afghanistan, this whimsical film will have you lusting for the most incredible adventures.

2. Vicky Cristina Barcelona

A part from the steamy love triangle and drama that ensues, Vicky Christina Barcelona remains a beautiful depiction of the Spanish countryside and lively city environment. The movie tells the tale of two friends, Vicky and Christina, who spend their vacation in Barcelona and meet mysterious painter Juan Antonio. A relationship between the three begins to form however, is eventually threatened by the entrance of Juan’s ex-wife. If you’re looking for drama mixed with pristene landscapes, this acclaimed film is a must.

3. L’auberge Espagnole

L’auberge Espagnole is the first installment in a trilogy of films that follows a group of friends that first meet in Barcelona. If you have the time on a Friday night, I would highly reccommend you watch all three. The story is centered around young and uptight student Xavier who travels to Barcelona to study abroad and learn spanish. Once there, he is placed in an apartment with six other international students who will eventually become his lifelong friends. Their chronicles take us through cities such as Paris, Moscow and New York. Though it is set as a drama, it often takes a humorous tone with relatable life lessons and struggles.

4. Tracks

Tracks takes us down under to the Western Australian desert where Robyn goes on a 1,700-mile trek with four camels and her loyal dog to reach the Indian Ocean. The film is based on the true story of Robyn Davidson who completed the epic journey in 1977. The film of course beautifully depicts the desert and grandeur of the Autralian outback. If you have yet to make it down under, perhaps this film will inspire the travel bug within you.

5. The Grand Budapest Hotel

The Grand Budapest Hotel, directed by Wes Anderson, tells the tale of a young bellboy who trains under the legendary conciergeman Gustave H. Though the adventures take place in the fictitious Republic of Zubrowka, the beautiful mountaintop and charming countryside will have you dreaming of the mountains. If you’re thinking of spending your next vacation in a mountain chalet, bring this film along for a cozy evening by the fire place.
