Tells the Story of Her Experience with GuestToGuest
“I’ve been doing home exchanges since 2008. As my home is my principle residence, I can only do simultaneous exchanges, meaning I only go to the homes of people who come to my home.
Since I signed up with GuestToGuest, I can choose any destination I want, as was the case at Easter this year. Because our school holidays in Belgium where offset from those of other countries, it wasn’t easy to find a family to exchange for the same dates. So I contacted Marie-France, who has a chalet in Switzerland. We agreed on the dates and terms of our stay. As their chalet can accommodate a large group, I asked if we could invite some of our friends.
During this time, I marked the calendar for my home as available and a Dutch couple contacted me to ask to stay in our home while they were visiting the Belgian Ardennes region. I prepared a bedroom and bathroom for them with clean linens, and I also left a basket with local culinary specialties such as our best Belgian chocolates—a must for Easter! When we returned, everything was clean and tidy, and they had left a note in our guest book: “Thank you so much for your hospitality. You have a lovely home and our stay was very pleasant.”
It’s important to know that the highest point in the Netherlands is just 320 metres high (yes, it’s a very low-lying country!!). And so they arrived at our home, they loved hiking in our Belgian “mountains” that reach 694 metres. At the same time we are gliding down ski slopes at 1,330 metres in the Swiss Valais.
"To each their mountains!”
