However, there is so much to do in Sete, you may not wish to leave! Once an island, Sete was built on a 175m (541 ft.) high limestone outcrop, known as Mont St. Clair, on the edge of the Bassin de Thau saltwater lagoon. It's strategic overlook beckons you to photograph, or at least pause and enjoy, panoramic views of the village, it's estuaries, and the ever-changing sea. Sete is famous for its fresh air and high quality beaches. It is also the testing site for ships entering The America's Cup competition. You will also find an internationally known training facility for kite surfing, staffed by world recognized experts, within 5km of Sete. Areas of interest served by the resort & fishing port of Sete (and nearby areas) include: Architecture; Geology & Paleontology; many forms of the Arts; religious, secular, and military History; Gastronomy; bird watching; Spas; Viniculture and Winery tours; Photography and film; eco-tourism; international trade; swimming, fishing and pleasure boating; live theatre and varied entertainment; landmarks and sightseeing; plus displays of both modern and tradtional culture. Cape d'Agde's au natural beaches and naturist community are also a mere 30 minutes away. What will YOU remember most about Sete? Will it be the little bakery you visited for fresh chocolate croissants and cafe au lait? The tour of museums honoring the noted poet, Paul Valery, and Georges Bressens (Sete's version of Bob Dylan)? Perhaps it will be an afternoon melting into a totally indulgent Thalassotherapy treatment and massage at the famed Balaruc baths... Will it be the later, romantic dinner of champagne and freshly harvested oysters, consumed at sunset, overlooking neat rows of shimmering shellfish beds? Or the cool midnight dip in our terrace pool? What makes Sete special? As part of the famed, 'French Riviera,' this region truly has something for everyone! Take a winery tour. Bike the challenging ride up Mont St. Clair. Rent a scooter and explore the idyllic and winding side streets that conceal wondrous surprises and daily village life! Skim the harbor waters in a pleasure boat, while fabled fishermen unload their daily catch at the dock. Spend an hour or two gaining knowledge of aquaculture and the ecology of Sete's many saltwater ponds (known as 'etangs) --home to the region's famous shellfish beds, and providing one of the few natural habitats for flamingos on the French coast! Or just perfect your French in a tiny streetside cafe, as you feel time slow and watch the colorful world go by .... You may choose to spend your day living like a celebrity: Sleep late, spend a languid day perfecting your tan on Sete's sandy, 12km (7.5 mi.) Mediterranean beach-- stroll the shoppes for a haute couture trinket, then follow that with a dinner of regional delicacies and club hopping (featuring live music and dancing late into the night!) Have something more meaningful in mind? Invite family & friends, get your ticket, buy your wedding gown in Paris, order your cake in Sete, and make your dream wedding in the South of France a reality! --with romantic Villa Florita as your first home... Explore the rich culture and history of the Languedoc region while you visit! In nearby Meze, couples of all ages can reintroduce themselves to the sublelties of 'amour'--complete with whispered phrases in French and stolen kisses-- on a romantic stroll through Meze's park at the ruined Abbey of Valmagne... or you can take the kids to a one of several area amusement/theme parks for a day of rollicking fun. They will also enjoy Meze's museum on the site of a major palentology excavation site. It has yielded one of the largest troves of Dinosaur eggs ever found! In nearby Maguelone (first settled by the Phoenicians) you can see a fabulous Romanesque cathedral built in the 1100s-- replete with heavenly mosaics (and, of course, sluices above the entry to pour boiling oil onto heathen invaders!) It was once a retreat for powerful bishops and popes during their lengthy disputes with the mighty kings of Europe! Staying for the whole season? It is easy to explore the whole region! Hop Sete's nearby train to Barcelona for some shopping, or take the ferry to Tangier for an unforgetable excursion into it's intoxicating souks! You can always leave everything behind, and live in the moment! Back in Sete, villagers and 'in the know' international vacationers will be spending an exciting summer season sailing, taking in live jazz or short film festivals, enjoying concerts & street performances, touring Roman ruins, sampling French perfume or pasteries, and strolling the flea market and open-air exhibits looking for that perfect souvenier! They will be falling in love, (perhaps again!) celebrating with relatives and new found friends at the joyous carnivals, or cheering their chosen team at the traditional water jousting tournaments held each summer in Sete.... Will you be among them? When you get tired, retreat to your serene balcony at Villa Florita -- to shower, nap, relax, enjoy the lovely view, and sip expresso in the fresh sea air. As the day winds to a close-- let your hair down, set the tone with music, and share memories of your day's adventures over artisan cheeses and a glass of good local wine.... Now you understand the true meaning of 'le joie de vie!' Welcome to Villa Florita! Won't you be our guest?
