What you will love about this home
We live in a ‘longère’ in a small hamlet of a dozen homes, surrounded by countryside. The drive and the patio area in the garden are shingle, like Portsmouth beach!
The construction of the house, with its thick walls means that you can keep cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
You enter the house via the huge kitchen, with a very long table and a range cooker (gas hob and 2 electric ovens). You will need these in the cold months, but we have a gas barbeque for the many warmer months. There is a separate utility room.
The lounge is large and square, with a large wood-burner which you will love if you come in the cooler months. Logs are piled up in the wood-store.
There is a roomy bathroom downstairs, with a large shower. There is one double bedroom downstairs. There is an additional bed-settee in the lounge.
Upstairs there is a huge master bedroom with an en-suite with a lovely deep bath. There are three other rooms upstairs which will remain locked. They are used as a study and for storage.
What you will love in the neighborhood
Benest is just a 15-minute walk away. It has a little bread and grocery shop, a post office, and a bar/café. Champagne Mouton is 20 minutes away with a really good small supermarket and petrol filling station. Ruffec is 45 minutes away with good restaurants, a Korean take-way, and a very large supermarket and out-of-town style shops.
Confolens is another small town, just 20 minutes from here. It is built on the river Vienne, really picturesque. Every August is hosts an international dance festival, with a whole week of concerts.
Ten minutes away there is a lovely small zoo, with a wide variety of animals, including camels and wallaby. You will need half a day to walk around it. It also has many climbing frames for the children, making it a fabulous day out. About an hour away, at Chauvigny, there is a bird park.
Futurescope, a great theme park, is about 1.5 hours away. Puy Du Fou, a medieval theme park, is about 2.5 hours away, so ideal for a stop-ever on the way here or on the way home. You must find out all about it from it’s website – it’s magnificent!
There are many good restaurants in the area - a description of each will be in the main house folder.
There a numerous chateaux in the area, some of which you can visit. At Rochfoucault you can dress up in costumes of the day.
There are many other places of interest to make your stay memorable. Richard the Lion Heart was buried in Poitiers, another place to visit, and Angouleme is another historic town not too far away, set high on a hill surrounded by a river, it reminds me of Durham
