What you will love about this home
The stone walls and timber beams provide a warm and cosy feel (more photos coming soon), while the position of the flat itself is in an ideal and sought-after location in Lyon (The 'Croix Rousse' suburb). For transportation in and around Lyon, we are also very well placed: the bus route 'C13' from the main train station (La Part Dieu) stops basically at our front door; there is the metro just 5 minutes away on foot; or you can get a weekly bike-hire ticket (5€) and grab one of the bikes from the numerous bike stations around Lyon (of which one happens to be also at our doorstep)!
The suburb is full of many wonderful restaurants,a great Irish Pub, and a few other nice bars. There is a small buy very modern cinema also just 5 minutes away which is run by volunteers. It screens Original Version films and still provides snacks the old way (someone walking the aisles with a tray of goodies that you hail over to make your purchase from your seat!).
The Croix Rousse is known for its famous silk trade, and especially the high-roofed apartments (known as a 'Canut') which used to serve as the manufacturing location for French silk production (Hermes for example). The 'Silk House' museum (la Maison des Canuts) is located in an adjacent street and will provide you with a great insight into this well known French industry of the 19th and 20th centuries. Our flat (and basically the entire suburb) is one of these old silk-weaving homes!
Overall, you will find Lyon to be one of Europe's best hidden secrets. Being Australian, now here for the past 16 years, I can guarantee you will love this city and its many wonderful sights.
A bientôt! !
