What your guests will love about your home
Dear visitor, Welcome to a fabulous city and to an - at least - equally fabulous appartment... For those who have never been to France, let me paint a brief portrait of Lyon (« Lyons » in american english, I believe) : Lyon is the second biggest city of France and has nothing to feel bad compared to the first one...Paris. Here is why : ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 1) LYON IS THE FRENCH CITY WHERE "EVERY DAY LIFE IS THE SWEETEST» according to national surveys...and damn it, it's true ! It's not too big and not too small. It's got two rivers (Saône and Rhône) with beautiful banks on which you can walk great distance in a beautiful environment (trees, riverboats, cafés,restaurants or just wood beds to lie down on in the sun with a book)... ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 2) THE BREATHTAKING ARCHITECTURE covers all ages from Renaissance (16th century) – wonderful roman ruins from the Antiquity - to our time. If you're curious about History and the way architecture sums it up, you'll feel at home in Lyon. You can recognize the historical center by its colourful facades who'll remind you the italian Renaissance buildings (Lyon and Italy were – still are- very close in several way : geographically, economically, socially,...). And you'll see something truely unique : the "traboules", which are basically stone tunnels built into the Rennaissance buildings in the old Lyon district to allow people to just walk across the streets quickly... ingenious and mysterious! ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 3) CONTRARY TO PARISANS' BAD REPUTATION (which they possibly earned), people living in Lyon like to enjoy life and they are quite friendly and helpful to tourists and people in general ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 4) THE WEATHER is very nice (much nicer than in Paris since it's down south) : between 20 C° and 33C° in the summer. You'd burn in Provence but you'll get only a nice tan in Lyon ! ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 5) LYON IS A CITY OF CULTURE : great museums (including the very recent "musées des confluence"- a great natural history museum- and the "musée Gadagne" which is about Lyon history since its origines), two huge parks (the « parc de la tête d'or » is particularily beautiful and has a free zoo in it !) and a dozen of charming little ones, auditorium (great classical concert place), opera, open air jazz concerts during the summer, stadium (Lyon's soccer team is one of the best of the country, if you're interested in soccer)... ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 6) IF YOU LIKE SHOPPING, you'll appreciate the « pente de la croix-rousse » district where you'll find local close/jewells/hats designers in cute little shops (i'll give you all the details you need, don't worry) ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 7) THE FOOD !!!!!!!! I can easily give you 10 or 15 restaurants adresses relatively close who'll make you fall in love with your plate... Especially in the neighborhood of our appartement, you'll have some difficult choice to make... But if you want my advice, don't make a choice, go to each and every one of them !). Furthermore, Lyon is the city of Paul Bocuse, an international french cuisine celebrity. You'll enjoy the dishes at his downtown restaurants and the food shopping at the "Halles Paul Bocuse"-a marvellous and luxury market hall! Plus, any morning of the week but especially on week-end, there is a huge gorgeous market or fresh products on the left bank of the river Saône called « marché Saint Antoine » - just a few hundreds of meters away from the appartment, that's also on the left bank of the Saône. By the way, the flat has a magical view on the river...as you can see in the video ! ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 8) REFRESHMENTS : the city swimming-pool will be a delight on hot summer days. It's got two pools and lots of water fun equipments (spa fountains, water slides,...). It's only 15 minutes away by bike (that we'll let at your disposal) from the appartement. If you like nature and lakes, there are plenty of those all around Lyon ("lac des sapins",etc...) ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// 9)THE PERFECT LOCATION : If you've never seen Paris and can't resist the temptation, it's only 2 hours of fast train away... same for Marseille (in Provence), for the Alps (Chamonix,Courchevelles,..) or for the even closer renown Rhône valley vineyards (including Côte-Rotie). Lyon is a touristic crossroads. The appartement is equally perfectly located, right in the "'Classified world heritage of Unesco" area along the Saône bank, facing the river and the historical district called « vieux Lyon ». If you still have doubts, here are several links to videos about Lyon (in english)... prepare to love this city ! And now, the appartment itself... Well, rather than describing it in 200,000 words (you'll get tired and that's not enough to describe how great it is) we made pictures for the inside... and a video for the outside ! ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// VIDEOS OF LYON (in english) //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Time Laps" video of the river and the areas you're gonna live next to... : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CD-59gzjvxk&index=2&list=RD53q2WOeUW9U ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Lyon from the sky ... Everything you'll see in that video is next door from the appartement !!!
