What your guests will love about your home
Driftwood House is a very light and spacious house with a lovely atmosphere and finished to a high standard.
The entrance sitting room is double height with large skylight windows, giving light and warmth, and perfect for looking at the night stars. Patio doors open from here onto the decking, a lovely place to sit and dine looking at the sea or to have a glass of wine whilst watching the beautiful sunsets. There is another sitting room with reclining sofas, a fireplace, TV (Sky, DVD), Wii console and a CD player. The dining kitchen is well equipped with double oven, hob, fridge freezer, dishwasher, microwave, Vitamix blender. An additional utility room houses the washing machine and dryer. There is also a double bedroom downstairs with en suite wet room. The other downstairs room is a sanctuary room. It is used as a refexology treatment room, but is a lovely, calm room in which to sit quietly and relax. There is also a cloakroom with WC in the entrance hall to the house.
The large mezzanine landing is another lovely place to sit for a drink, read and look out at the sea. There are four well furnished double bedrooms, 3 with double beds and 1 with twin beds. Two of the bedrooms have ensuite shower rooms and there is a further family bathroom with whirlpool bath and shower.
The house has a private, gated driveway with parking for at least 3 or 4 cars. The garden surrounding the house is varied with plenty of lawn space, a stream with small waterfall, a large rockery (full of colour in the summer), a few palm trees and a swing in one of the large trees! Small children would need supervising in the garden because of the stream and, also, the land drops steeply from the decking down to where the waterfall ends. Adjoining the garden is a field in which we hope to keep some animals (possibly Pygmy goats). There are no animals as yet in the field, but it's a great place for children to explore. The neighbours in the surrounding area are very genuine, kind and welcoming people.
We have tranquility and beautiful views, but are only minutes from amenities, activities and entertainment should you require anything.
What your guests will love about your neighborhood
Our home is surrounded by beautiful countryside and coastline. The house is very private in its own grounds, and yet it is less than 10 minutes from the vibrant town of Schull where there are lovely places to eat, pubs with traditional music, interesting shops and a weekly country market. Visit www.schull.ie to find out more about what's happening in the town. West Cork is rich in culture with many artists, musicians and actors choosing to settle here. There is always something happening locally from art exhibitions, film festivals and sailing regattas to theatrical productions and culinary events. It is also easy to find complete seclusion and peace if you wish. It is a 15 minute walk to the sea from the house, 5 minutes by car to the lovely beach at Ballyrisode and 20 minutes to the spectacular Barley Cove. The market towns of Bantry and Skibbereen are each 25 minutes by car where you will find a wider variety of shops and many interesting places to visit. Other activities available locally are sailing (there is an excellent sailing school in Schull), water sports, kayaking, pony trekking and there a leisure centre in the hotel in Schull with a well equipped gym, swimming pool and sauna. Cork city is 100km- a bustling city with plenty to see and constant events throughout the year. We have been living here for almost 2 years and are still finding new places to explore and never cease to be overwhelmed by the beauty of West Cork and the warmth of the people.
Linen will be provided. Oil is supplied to heat the water and the radiators. 2 of the showers are electric and 2 are heated water. There is a small selection of wet suits available, but these may also be hired from the sailing school if using their facilities.
