Diever village:

An historic Drenthe village at the heart of rural Netherlands and is surrounded by areas of stunning natural beauty. In the village there is a grocery store, ice cream shop, an award-winning bakery (rated among the top 10 in the NL), a good variety of shops, souvenir stores, cafes, bars, restaurants and a bank. There is a market, encircling the 14th century church, selling everything from clothes to local products, held in Diever every Monday throughout the Summer months. Diever is famously renowned for the open-air productions of Shakespeare which have been re-enacted in its forest amphitheatre each year since 1946. The village has a bird sanctuary, an archaeological museum and megalithic stones dating from 3,000 B.C.

Diever is placed at the crossroads of three provinces - Drenthe, Overijssel and Friesland - all uniquely different to one another. So when you are in Drenthe, why not discover Friesland and Overijssel provinces as well - the borders lie just 15 minutes away by car. Diversity on your doorstep! Get a glimpse of life in the Netherlands during the 18th century at the ‘working‘ village of Orvelte. Visit the WWII transit camp at Westerbork – from where Anne Frank and her family made their final journey, or take in the many museums nearby. For the kids, there are countless fun parks, and, for our youngest guests, enchanting ‘fairy tale’ parks nearby. While the city of Groningen ('shop till you drop') & the German border are all less than an hour's drive, the provincial capital at Assen is just 25 minutes away. Not forgetting the new 'Wildlands' zoo/amusement park at Emmen, which will take up a good part of a day to get around! For those looking for more sporty activities, sailing, boat excursions & fishing can be enjoyed on the lakes at Giethoorn (the ‘Venice of the North’), with an 18-hole golf course at Havelte (14km/9 miles away). The Frisian islands make a great day out with some of the best beaches in the Netherlands (the ports are around 1 ½ hours away) - Terschelling island (1 hr 45 mins ferry crossing), Ameland island with excursions available from there to the seal colonies on Robbeneiland (45 minutes to Ameland by catamaran, or 120 mins by regular ferry) and Schiermonnikoog island (45 minutes crossing time). The tourist office in Diever has also a wealth of information on the surrounding area as well.
So, whether its picnicking in the forest, going by horseback along one of the many marked trails, or exploring the flora and fauna on one of the off-shore islands, you wont be disappointed by this areas rich heritage, its welcoming, English speaking people and its unending choice of excursions and attractions - come and visit the real Netherlands!
