Situated in a beautiful old village of Osek, our house offers great hiking, cycling, paragliding, fishing and other leisure options, including superb wine & gastronomy. Set amidst the Vipava valley, a picturesque wine region of Southern Slovenia, the 140m2 house comfortably sleeps 5 people, offering you a quiet, lush garden, including own organic vegetables and fruit -- and plenty of birdsong! Besides a healthy, children-friendly village atmosphere and easily accessible wild mountains, you can also explore dreamy villages or enjoy both old and modernist towns, as well as several sea and river beaches. The 110-year old stone house has been completely rebuilt and refurbished in 2014 along our own "eco-minimalist neo-rural" style, using pure natural materials. The enterior is mostly made of stone or larch and oak wood (oiled), however the house is fully equipped with modern amenities: all domestic appliences (except microwave), broadband wi-fi (incl TV), a vintage-style kitchen, set into a single-space 45m2 living room (incl. a toy-corner) with 5 south-facing windows and a big terrace door, all without too much furniture (natural wood only). The house has 2 bathrooms, a 45 m2 children-room attic space, a big master bedroom, a studio (computer/reading) "office" space, a 60m2 private terrace (of untreated larch-wood) on 1st floor, 2 roofed parking lots, solar water heating, hi-tech insulation (windows and outward walls)... Most windows and terrace door are equipped with a quality mosquito net system for maximum summer comfort. Some little aesthetic issues still need to be finalized on the house in the coming months, but its functionality and comfort are already complete! Ground floor: Entrance hall, small bathroom (shower, toilet), kitchen with living room and toy/music corner (total 50m2); 1st floor: master bedroom 16m2, studio space/hall (2 office tables), big bathroom (bath tub, 2 sinks, bidet), exit to 10m2 balcony (unique traditional style), and further to 60m2 roofed wooden terrace (with connection down to garden/parking); Top floor: 45m2 single-space children area -- attic with separate sleeping space (3 beds) and 25m2 play/study space (3 roof windows, 5 child-safe low-windows). Our daughters would love to share some of their quality toys, musical instruments and childrens' books (Slovenian, English..) and DVDs. Using one of our 2 cars (Peugeot 807 or 308-SW) and some of our bicycles is a negotiable option. The village even has an art gallery, the nearest local shop and bar/tavern is 500m away, theatre and cinema options are available 10kms away in Nova Gorica (SLO) / Gorizia (ITA) twin-town, where there are also shopping malls, farmacies, hospitals, public swimming pool, spas etc. (see links below). What your guests will love about your neighborhood

The house is set in a secure and quiet neighbourhood, at the edge of the old core of a 500-year old village of Osek. The house is facing southwards, its garden continues into lush greens, fields and forests of the Osek surroundings... The village of Osek is bordering onto two other villages Šempas and Vitovlje (walking distance), with good connections (5km) to the A4 (Venice-Ljubljana) motorway, and to the adjacent towns of Nova Gorica (SLO, 10kms) and Gorizia (ITA, 12kms), but also Triest (40 mins by car) and Ljubljana (50 mins by car). A direct bus between Nova Gorica and Ljubljana stops at Osek 10 times a day, the nearest train station is in Dornberk (5km), the Gorizia (Itay, 12km) train station opens options for travel in the TrenItalia (http://www.trenitalia.com network...

The house is a perfectly located to explore both Slovenian, Italian and also Croatian coastlands, with direct trajectories into the Slovenian Alps and Italian Dolomites (several world-famous ski centres in 2-hours ride), including the famous Soča (Isonzo) river valley (20mins), the Goriška Brda region ("Slovenian Tuscany", 20mins), Triest (45 mins car/train), Venice (90 mins by car, 2 hours by train) and the modernist town of Nova Gorica (15 mins), a twin-town partner of the Italian-Austro-Hungarian charming old town of Gorizia (20mins). It is a perfect departure point for both main-road and dirt-road cycling, as well as radical mountain-biking freaks.

From the sunny Vipava valley (300 sunny days a year!) you can easily reach Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, just 50 mins by car; also the Croatian coast of Istria is reachable within 70 mins, the Croatia islands of Krk, Cres and Lošinj are within 90 mins reach), Slovenian coast with tourist towns of Koper, Piran, Izola and Portorož are mere 40+ mins away. The famous paragliding spot of "Lijak" is only 5 km from our house!

The village of Osek (130-170m above sea level) and its adjoining two villages of Šempas and Vitovlje are set in the south-western half of the viniferous and scenic Vipava valley, at the foot of the majestic, untouched Trnovski gozd (forest) plateau (800-1300m) that lavishes them, with fresh air and spring-clean water. They overlook the Carst plateau (400-600m), at the other end of which the Adriatic coastline keeps sending in Mediterranean climate, and inviting beach options... Directly from the house one can enjoy several flat or steep hiking and cycling routes, along roads, streams, ponds and lakes, vineyards, including an energy-trail system devised by the famous geomancy expert Marko Pogačnik (according to his geomancy, the Osek village holds the heart-chakra of the whole region).
