What your guests will love about your home
We live in a charming Victorian terrace house in Central Hackney, London. The house is lovely and sunny and we think, a little oasis from the hustle and bustle of a very exciting little corner of London. The house was built in 1890 for a Mr Stevens who owned the main factory nearby at that time. Stevens Avenue is one of the few remaining Victorian terrace streets in this part of East London, an area that underwent much change in the mid 20th century, first from slum clearance and then from bomb damage. We’re lucky to have many of the original features, from exposed floorboards to sash windows and we believe we’ve brought out the best in the house, furnishing it with contemporary and mid-century modern styling. We've lived in our house for over 8 years, and during that time have seen this part of London become more interesting and more exciting. We’re total foodies, which is just as well, because Hackney has some of the best Turkish and Vietnamese food and our local restaurants are widely acclaimed; whether it’s amazing pizza at Lardo (www.lardo.co.uk), great coffee at Railroad (www.railroadhackney.co.uk), brunch at Rawduck (www.rawduck.co.uk) or dinner at Mayfields (www.mayfieldswiltonway.co.uk) - we’re spoilt for choice round here. Stevens Avenue is a quiet street, with no-through traffic and easy access to the transport links of Hackney Central (less than 10 minutes walk), which include numerous buses that take you into Central London as well as an Overground station which now, thanks to the improved infrastructure brought about by the Olympics, connects with the Underground, making all parts of London within easy reach. Our home is half way between beautiful Victoria Park, with its adventure playgrounds, skate park and herbaceous gardens and London Fields, with its world class Lido (where the British Olympian team trained). Both these parks are easily accessible at less than 10 minutes walk away. In terms of shopping, we are literally round the corner from a number of high-end fashion outlet stores which include Burberry, Pringle, Aquascutum and Bally and there are amazing weekend markets nearby from the world renown Columbia Road Sunday Flower Market just off the Hackney Road to the really great grazing and farmers market at Broadway Market every Saturday. We also have a fantastic shopping centre (Westfield Stratford City) which is only two stops on the Overground and if you’re there and you’ve had enough of shopping there is always the Olympic Aquatic Centre designed by Zaha Hadid and the truly magnificent Queen Elizabeth Park to explore as well. In Hackney Central, there is the Hackney Empire Theatre, a great rep theatre with lots of fun productions and the Hackney Playhouse, a fantastic independent cinema. Jump on the bus and in 10 minutes you can also visit the V&A’s Children’s Museum in Bethnal Green, but we think you’ll have fun just hanging out. Alternatively, a single bus ride will take you into the centre of town in half an hour where, well it’s London, there is just so much to do and see. Our house is very light and open and can easily accommodate a family of 4, as are we. Downstairs there is one reception room, a generous sized kitchen and a lovely courtyard garden. I am a garden designer, so I should hope it’s lovely, but you’ll have to decide that for yourself! Upstairs are two double bedrooms, our kids bedroom (our son is 4 and our daughter is 2 and half) with two toddler single beds and the bathroom, with shower over the bath. We have two cats, who are sisters. They are totally adorable, very warm and friendly and we have a cat flap so they can come and go as they please. They only need feeding once a day and eat dry food. We also have all sorts of baby equipment, high chair, travel cot. Please let us know what you need and we'll endeavour to sort out stuff we don't have. We think our house would be a really great base for anyone wanting to explore and experience this fun and very cool corner of London. We are a considerate family and will treat your house with the utmost respect.

Great places to eat and drink from cafes to bars to restaurants.
Two amazing parks, fantastic markets and great shopping all less than 10 minutes away
Very convenient for getting into Central London, though we think you'll enjoy just hanging out here!
We hope you love our house as much as we do. We really are in one of the best corners of London. There is so much going on, and it's all within easy reach. We do have a car, but really you don't need it, this area is about wandering, browsing and grazing.
