What your guests will love about your home
We live in Park Slope, one of the prettiest neighborhoods in New York City and one of the most prosperous. It is filled with beautiful old homes, shopping streets, and is next to one of the largest and prettiest parks in the city, which is a lovely respite from the urban streets.
As for our home itself, we do have some words of caution. By New York City standards, it is a very nice apartment in a highly coveted location and has all the amenities including central heat/AC and a washer/dryer (not that common in NYC). It has two bedrooms, and a nice combined living room and kitchen. But by the standards of much of the rest of the world, it would be considered small. It is about 950 square feet, or 88 square meters. It is also our home, our only home, so it is full of art, books and various beloved possessions, which we expect guests to be careful around.
We also have two cats, as well as some gerbils and a hermit crab, which need care. The two cats, about 16 years old, and healthy, are very affectionate and loving and they like attention from people. Please do not contact us unless you love cats, for your sake and theirs! If you merely tolerate cats you will not be happy here. They need to be fed, and their litter box needs to be tended and changed regularly. We have two bathrooms in the apartment, and the smaller one we have simply given over to our cats. That's where we put their litter boxes. Full disclosure: one of the cats unfortunately sometimes poops on the floor there, we have a routine to flush it down the toilet when that happens. The cats can also cry in the morning to be fed, although we have managed mostly successfully to train them not to cry. When you are home the cats will cuddle and snuggle as much as you let them.
So that's the good and the cautionary notes about our apartment. It's in a great location, it is well-equipped, and one has to be prepared to live amid our stuff, and to take care of cats, gerbils and a hermit crab.
