A small paradise: removed from the world, it’s a place to simply be happy
Big Bend National Park is practically "in our back yard:)" Alpine is rural, located in the mountains of far West Texas in the Chihuahuan Desert, about an hour north of the mexican border. There is virtually no humidity so even when days are hot, nights are cool and one needs a sweater. The climate is awesome! Marfa (an international minimalist art destination) is 25 minutes away. McDonald's Observatory (and fab sky parties) are 35 mins away - the sky is unfathomably clear. Sul Ross State University is located in Alpine, population 6,000. This is cattle country. My husband and I are 3rd generation ranchers and artists. We have a gallery downtown and the Historic Bottle House is located next to our other BnB home, The Alpine Studio. You are welcome to use one or both. The Alpine Studio has 3 beds (1 King, 1 full and 1 single). The Bottle House has 4 beds. Alpine is super safe. Park on the street and walk everywhere. Alpine is located at the "hub of the wheel" so to speak with Marathon (east: Gage Hotel), Fort Davis (north:historic fort), Marfa (west:Art) 25 minutes away and Big Bend and Mexico 1 hour south. The nearest airport is 2.5 hours away in Midland and 3 hours away in El Paso (easier and cheaper to fly into). Amtrak - funnily enough - stops right in the middle of town twice a week and our Bnb's are right across the street from the train station. There is a small private car rental place here. Welcome intrepid travelers! There is $75 cash cleaning fee due upon departure - honor system - pop in wonder woman lunchbox on top of microwave.
